LOOK: First Resort-Themed Terminal In Mactan-Cebu Int’l Airport Now Operational

Mactan-Cebu International Airport’s (MCIA) Terminal 2 welcomes and sends off its first passengers ‘Cebuano style’ on its first day of operations on July 1.

Sinulog dancers moved to the the rhythm of the live band’s music. Colorfully clad in their costumes, they placed smiles and soothed the weary spirits of arriving passengers. The festive and warm welcome for the passengers were only a small part of the successful first day of MCIA’s Terminal 2, and although minor problems arose, authorities and passengers were satisfied with the services and the overall aesthetic of the newly-opened terminal.

The P17.5B terminal boasts a 65,600 square meter area that will accommodate international flights flying in & out of the country. The sleek design and the unique undulating roof, which was inspired by Mactan’s surrounding seas, is meant to attract tourists and promote Cebu as a top-tourist destination.

Among other areas of the terminal, the glulam roof was also designed by the Integrated Design Associates Ltd., a Hong Kong-based architectural firm that specializes in building ‘Green’ designs.

The MCIA’s Terminal 2 project is part of the current administration’s “Build, Build, Build” Infrastructure program.
