What comes to mind when you hear the word, “Taiwan?” Skyscrapers? Business district? Well, yes and no. Taiwan has got everything from dazzling buildings to natural wonders and ancient temples, making it one of Asia’s top travel destinations.

Lucky for us Filipinos it’s easier to travel to Taiwan these days thanks to its more relaxed visa app process and its close proximity to Manila. (P/S No visa until July, so take advantage!)

Nature and city beat as one in Taiwan

Between all the scenic sites and exciting activities Taiwan has to offer, it’s hard to choose what to do first. So, we made a quick rundown of things to see and do the next time you visit Asia’s hidden gem.

1. Reach for the Heavens

No trip to Taiwan is complete without a visit to the towering Taipei 101. I know what you’re thinking: what’s so special about a skyscraper? Aside from being one of the highest buildings in the world, it also serves as the perfect symbol for Taiwan where tradition meets modernity. The building’s architecture was inspired by the bamboo stalk, a symbol of traditional Chinese values.

Taipei 101 was the world’s top skyscraper only until 2004, but it’s still the home to the highest Starbucks in the world!

Taipei 101 also has some of the world’s fastest elevators which can travel from ground to top in a span of 37 seconds! Once you’ve traveled all the way up, you’ll be greeted by an awesome 360 degree aerial view of Taiwan’s bustling capital. And if that doesn’t impress you yet, Taipei 101 is also home of the highest Starbucks in the world! How cool is that?
